 Hunter Chapin Cabinetmaker, Inc.
Fine New England Craftsmanship

Hunter Chapin Cabinetmaker, Inc., was founded by Matt Cacciatore, master craftsman and Mary Clark Cacciatore, designer. Mary and Matt design all cabinetry and furniture and collaborate on all projects.

Matt and his wife, Tracy, run the company 's cabinet shop and retail showroom in Canaan, New Hampshire, about 20 miles east of Hanover. Mary works from her home office in New York. The company serves customers throughout New England, using the Internet extensively to showcase products and communicate with customers. Almost all clients come from referrals.

Mary has been designing projects privately for more than 30 years. After a successful career in technology sales and marketing, including starting her own software company, she now designs professionally.

Matt developed his woodworking skills in the family's cabinet and home building businesses in New York, and in a New England custom furniture shop, where he ran the cabinet division, supervising the production and installation of kitchens, libraries and other custom projects. With his extensive experience in cabinetmaking, custom installations and fine trim work, Matt has created his own furniture designs such as the gaming table shown here at the left.

Matt and Mary have a keen interest in solving customer problems.

"We enjoy going into a customer's home, seeing how they live, listening to their space and storage issues . So many times, we advise on how to reconfigure space, without major expansion or expense.

"We feel that our own experiences, attention to technical details, and continual study of industry trends and products help our customers make informed decisions. We often bring customers to our own homes, which serve as another showroom. Not only can they see our custom cabinetry, but opening our homes to clients establishes an intimacy and friendliness. When you work from personal referrals, as we do, building friendships means building business."

Who is Hunter Chapin?

The Hunter Chapin name identifies the family's heritage. Hunter is the English translation for Cacciatore.

The Chapin name comes from Matt and Mary's English ancestry. They are direct descendants of Samuel Chapin, a Puritan, who came to New England in 1645.

Statues of Samuel Chapin stand in Springfield, Massachusetts and at the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Historical Site in Claremont, New Hampshire.
